Creative Photography

This guide will provide suggestions on how to improve your creative photography skills. Hopefully you will find inspiration to set up some fantastic quirky and artistic shots. As with art photography there can be no rules for how to go about taking interesting photographs and, as ever, the ultimate aim is to create something unique and personal to you.

The first way to start taking more interesting photos is to break all the rules you would normally follow to take a good photograph. Consider the way you compose and frame your photographs before you take them. Do you find that you always have the main point of focus in the same places? If so, try something different! Make use of all the space available to you in the photograph, perhaps by placing the subject of your shot in a corner and allow its surroundings to play out behind it. Think less rigidly about lines and objects and use a variety of angles and the peripheries of the lens to look in a new way at the same old object.

An easy way to get interesting creative shots is to take objects or situations out of context. Use an object in a place you would never normally find it, or substitute it for one with a similar shape. Whoever sees your photos may notice that something isn’t quite right, but may take their time noticing exactly what.

Since its very first days photography has been used as a way of representing and depicting reality and the way it really is. As they used to say, ‘the camera never lies’. But with the boom in digital photography and the availability of photo editing software, you can now tweak any aspect of your images. Your creativity is now only as limited as your imagination!

Try manipulating shapes and lines, altering colors or merging completely different photographs together to create something completely original. Turn photographs you took today into vintage photography using photoshop effects. Play around with the different features of your editing software, and each new trick you learn will provide ideas on how to improve your existing photographs, and inspire you to go out and take new ones.

With any luck, these creative digital photography tips should arm you with a few new ideas to try out to improve your shots and ensure that your photograph albums need never be dull again!
