Nikon Coolpix S1000pj Review

This article will explain everything you need to know about the new Nikon Coolpix s1000pj digital camera, the first in the world to include a built-in projector!

The main draw of this camera is obviously the projector, which allows you to share your pictures with the entire room rather than forcing your family and friends to crowd around to catch a glimpse of the LCD screen. You can now display your photos on walls or screens from 10 inches to 6ft 6 inches away to create images from 5 to 40 inches diagonally. Not only will you be able to project your photos and videos in VGA resolution, but also control the camera with the supplied remote control.

All of this would do very little if it wasn’t packaged with a powerful camera, and once again Nikon refuses to disappoint. The camera is built around a 12.1 megapixel sensor that provides high-resolution images that should look incredible when developed, whatever the size. The 2.7” wide viewing angle LCD screen on the back of the camera allows for precise image composition, as well as allowing you to show off photos you don’t want to share with the entire room. This is all included alongside a lens that can give up to 5 times optical zoom and fitted in a body that measures only 4 x 2.5 x 0.9 inches.

The in camera software is equally as impressive as the hardware that surrounds it. The anti-shake function should help to keep your pictures blur-free, even at full zoom, while ISO sensitivities which go up to 6400 allow the camera to operate at fast shutter speeds in low light situations. Nikon have included 16 different scene modes that optimize settings dependant upon what you’re shooting, as well as an intelligent auto-scene selector which determines the subject while analyzing the surrounding settings and then automatically selects the appropriate scene mode, letting you get the shot you want without hassle.

All in all, the Nikon Coolpix s1000pj is an impressive bit of kit, and as the first digital camera with a built in projector, it may point to the future of the compact digital camera.
